The Dreaded Default coding

Team,

Most of you will be well aware that the default .ppl file for the Omaha 08 (Hi/Lo) bot is an absolute pain in the you know what, Egors cash profile (which is what the default is for the 08 bot) just does not cut it for different game types, and if the profile were to make some of those moves in a cash game I would be very concerned, its loose, its trigger happy, it bets with next to nothing and does nothing but cause everyone headaches - especially myself and Sausedup while trying to code out these guns blazing moves that seem to creep through no matter what we do.

In a recent email conversation with Egor I tried to get him to release two .ppl default profiles, his current one and his MTT profile as the second, it is much tighter and smarter, and does not make stupid moves often; which would be perfect for Sit & Go's, Satellites and Tournaments.  We all know Egor is a big grumpy puppy and the response I received, and I qoute, "If the default is causing you problems then you must not be trying hard enough."

That upset me, as SU & I devote all of our time to making profiles for our team to use and profit from, we do nothing but provide great customer service, constant updates if any leaks are found, constant new profiles to try out and helpful advice where we can; and we do it all for a very very small price.

I have found a solution to our problems and it is up to you if you wish to do this, by eliminating the default .ppl (omaha.ppl) file, you eliminate the stupid moves it makes, now if you do this it does NOT mean there will be no default coding, if you do this it will resort back to the original hardwire coding that we had before the whole .ppl file thing happened - the hard wired default coding.

I have noticed from my own results and our members that since the .ppl file was added to the Hi?lo bot our results have gone down, so you can do one of two things; first just delete the omaha.ppl file; if you want it back all you need to do is redownload the bot; or you can do what I did and rename the file to omaha1.ppl, and the bot will not see it as the default file to load.

I highly recommend that all members try this, as since I have my results have gone back up again; and since Egor will not release a second .ppl file to be used with other game types this is the next best thing.

Give it a go, and let me know how your Omaha 08 results reflect the change, I think you'll find a nice increase :)

distribute base profiles in PPL?

I agree, having a loose generic profile in PPL is dangerous and unprofitable. Maybe this could be a solution: make a solid tight profile for cash and a solid tight profile for MTT (PLO and PLO8 obv). Encode them into .PPL and distribute them with your custom profiles. Then the custom profile txt file is loaded on top of the .PPL and can have many more game-specific refinements.

I know a guy that does this for the NLHE bot and it works out quite well, because his .PPL files are very solid. Then the user can load additional profiles for playing looser, or shorterhanded games, etc. It works quite well and you can see in the verbose output where a custom profile might deviate from standard solid play.

Just O8 or PLO too

Do you feel like we should do this with just the O8 bot?

Yes, The Omaha Hi Default

Yes,

The Omaha Hi Default isn't too bad, so leave that one for now.  Also remember if you do choose to rename or delete the ppl file for the 08 bot you must do so everytime it updates.
