Rules of the Rolla

Royal's picture

It has been some time since my last blog entry, a combination of coding new profiles (and updating them and coding out the annoying default) and running the rags to riches challenge which is just past %70 complete; that alone has been very exciting for me, I love seeing it motivate others, and not just with Omaha, the Holdem Challenge as well has really been satisfying to watch, especially considering Cosmo asked for my advice and assistance before setting up the challenge.  Then I moved house, and had some real time drama's to deal with – alas I am here to blog again.

“Rules of the Rolla” is a series I have been thinking about for some time now, basically it will be a series of blogs about random subjects I want to reinforce to our long standing members, and even our newer ones.  I don't know how many I will release, but I do know I will at some point touch on manual play as well as covering subjects in relation to botting; most members here are poker players and don't have a lot of live Omaha experience, or very little knowledge of how to play a winning strategy consistently.

So, lets get on with it shall we?

Rakeback

I know I have touched on this several times before, but I see more and more members just shrugging this very useful resource off, people don't seem to understand that rakeback alone can make your roll so much more juicy, especially if you are grinding away to get back a deposit bonus, or even the quick 50 bonus Fulltilt are running right now to promote Rush poker.  If you dont have rakeback GET IT, this easily turns a lot of loosing players into winning players, it may only sound like a small amount being 27% but if you bot a lot, that 27% adds up; and its even more important while your grinding off Bonus Offers, it just makes the deal so much sweeter.

Bonus

I assume everyone is aware of this, most of you would be eligible for the quick 50 bonus, just click “Requests” inside your Fulltilt client, then click on “check bonus offer”, if you are eligible a notice will pop up telling you if you accept you have 30 days to get your 50 bucks back.

Pull Out the Grinders

So you have the quick 50, you have rakeback, time to pull out the grinding profiles; dust them off and put them to work.  4 table or 6 table, using the Omaha Hi or Lo cash profiles to grind out bonus, and grind out rakeback; together you have a nasty profit cocktail.  The 9 Max profiles are consistent, I'd be setting them to double up and sit out, or hop if you have a hopper.  Even the 6 max profiles, especially rush would be an easy way to grind out these offers and add some extra dollars to your roll.

Bankroll Management

We have been here before, but this relates to the above topics, I am very serious when I say set your rules and stick to them; what ever rules you set whether it be 50 buyins or 100 buyins; set it and stick to it.  If it means playing the micro limits then so be it, just be sure to select the right tables and tournaments or sit & go's to play; mark the players you see often, use your head with this one.  I have a very serious sane I use very often, Stick to your rules or your just another fish in the pond, be smart, bot smart; play smart.

Game Selection

Obviously all these topics relate to each other, game selection is just as important as sticking to your roll rules, what ever you set these rules to be; STICK TO THEM, if your rules say to play an MTT there must be at least a payout bubble of 27 players then stick to it, if it doesn't reach that far, don't enter it, there will be plenty more games in the future, what's the rush?  Make sure you pick the right games, if its cash games go for the big average pot sized and a high percentage player see the flop games, again; stick to your guns, play your rules like they are the bible and you are a faithful Flanders god worshipper.

Resist the Urge

From speaking to members I know a lot of you can't help yourselves and jump in and takeover from the bot, if your normal strategy involves taking over at the final table that is fine, but be sure you know what your doing so that when you get busted before the major money your not bashing your head into the wall cursing that you didn't let the bot & profile play and do its job; in most cases it would have done better then the player, and earned a better ROI.  If you do take over when you hit the money or final table; be sure you know EXACTLY what you are doing, if you don't then read my “Knowledge is power blogs, buy an Ebook or two and learn the game before assuming you can do better then the bot.

Assume Nothing

This will be the last topic for this addition of “Rules for the Rolla”, never assume anything, never put a loss down to bad luck, never just shrug off dollars because your “running cold”, examine your logs and find the plays you don't like or don't agree with and post them either on the forum or to our omaha.profiles@gmail address.  If you are lazy, then just get the toolbox offered for free in the market place, this tool makes finding the bad plays EXTREMELY easy, and we all should know by now that the more logs you post, the better the profiles will become; and the more money, bonus & rakeback you will earn as a result.

That is it for this edition. I will post another in the near future, if anyone has any requests of topics you would like to hear about email them to me at the address above, and I will explain anything I know to you with out hesitating.

Until next time,

Royal
